Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann is the largest group involved in the preservation and promotion of Tulla Traditional Music Festival Tulla Comhaltas celebrated its 50th anniversary with a Traditional Music Festiva on the weekend of 14th Sept 2007 which attracted huge crowds. It was a great weekend of entertainment including a sell-out concert in the Parish Church, ceilis each night, fiddle recital hosted by Vincent Griffin. Also during Saturday workshops were held in most instruments in St. Joseph's Secondary School. in September is a weekend packed with wonderful music, song, dance,
concerts, céilithe and workshops. Our very own ‘Maids of Tulla’ will
perform at the official opening in the Courthouse on Friday night. This
will be followed by ‘The Family that Plays together …’ where several
talented family groups from the locality will play a tune, sing a song
and dance in Minogues.Saturday evenings concert in the Courthouse will showcase the renowned Sligo born flute player Seamus Tansey, along with other special guests. This is a great opportunity to see Seamus Tansey play live in Clare. The highlight of Sunday’s entertainment will be the music recital at Tulla Courthouse. Catherine McEvoy, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and Mícheál Ó Raghallaigh will showcase their talent along with other special guests. The Courthouse is a beautiful setting for a music recital, seating is limited and pre-booking is recommended. Set dancing fans will definitely not be disappointed as the weekend starts with an opening céilí at Murrays with music by Larry McEvoy on Friday night. Saturday night the Tulla Céilí Band will take to the stage at St Joseph’s Secondary School hall at 10pm. The closing céilí on Sunday night will have a magic of its own with music by Jim Corry, Mark Donnellan and friends. Robbie McMahon and Nora Butler will host a singing session at Teach Ól on Sunday. This has proven to be a very popular part of the festival for the past few years and all singers are welcome. Workshops will include Fiddle, Flute, Concertina, Traditional Singing, Comhra Gaeilge, Steps for Sets and Sean Nós Dancing. Come to Tulla for a weekend to enjoy, savour and remember…….... They are a non-profit cultural movement with hundreds of local branches around the world, They have been working for the cause of Irish music since the middle of the last century (1951 to be precise). Their efforts continue with increasing zeal as the movement launches itself into the 21st century.
